SEPSIS

Anyone can get an infection and any infection can lead to Sepsis. It is a medical emergency.

Sepsis is the body's extreme response to an infection. According to the CDC, at least 1.7 million Americans develops Sepsis in a year and 350,000 who develop Sepsis die during hospitalization or are discharged to hospice. Age 65 or older, weak immune system, chronic medical conditions and people with severe illness or hospitalization are among those at risk of Sepsis.

Act fast and get medical care and ask your medical provider if you should go to the emergency room if you have one or more of the following symptoms:

- Fever, shivering or feeling very cold
- High heart rate or weak pulse
- Clammy or sweaty skin
- Confusion or disorientation
- Extreme pain or discomfort
- Shortness of breath

STROKE

Stroke is when something blocks the blood supply to part of the brain or when a vessel in the brain bursts. It is the leading cause of death in the United States.

What to look for?

- Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg
- Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or trouble understanding speech
- Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
- Sudden trouble walking, loss of balance or lack of coordination.

ACT FAST! CALL 9-1-1 when you suspect a STROKE.

F - Face: Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?
A - Arm: Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downwards?
A- Speech: Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is the speech slurred or strange?
T - Time: Time lost is brain lost. CALL 9-1-1. Treatment works best within 3 hours of the first symptoms.

Eat a healthy diet

Exercise regularly

Have a plan to cut down and quit smoking

Watch your weight

Monitor your blood pressure

Take your blood pressure medicines prescribed by your doctor
